This novel is outstanding. A passionate tale of love, heartache, good, evil, courage, depravity, and sacrifice - it explores all the depths and warts of human emotion and experience. I will not give any spoilers, but briefly, the story is of an innocent, good-natured man who has found the perfect woman. However, she is then stolen away from him by her evil (and frighteningly powerful and well-connected) ex-boyfriend. The story involves the unbelieveable trials and tribulations the hero and his friends undertake to rescue his true love.Vividly written, with an incredible sense of place, and language that makes you feel that you are there with the hero and experiencing everything that he is, make this (admittedly long) book a fast and always enjoyable and interesting read.
And with the shocking cliffhanger at the ending, I can't wait to see how it all turns out in volume two.

This is a fast paced, action packed novel that you will not be able to put down. The Living and the Dead is about love, romance, friendships, hit men, murder, and revenge. There is a little something for everyone. Mr. Enciso created heroes and truly evil villains whom the readers will come to love and remember. When I first picked up the book I was daunted by the legth of it, but the book was a fast read. The story hooked me in from the beginning and there was not a moment I had wished the book would end. The only disappointment is that now I have to wait to see how the story of Nate and Sara ends. I can't wait for the sequel to come out.
Although I normally don't write book reviews, I believe this fantastic book deserves one. The story grabs you from the very beginning with a shocking murder and takes you through all the twists and turns, like a great books should, to its gut-wrenching cliffhanger of an ending. The characters are so life-like and memorable, by the end of the book, I felt like I personally knew each of them. Honestly, I didn't want the story to end, but at least it's going to continue in Volume 2. I'm hoping that book is as riveting as the first. So if you like a great story, don't miss out on this book. You won't be disappointed.
A well written and inriguing read, that had me unable to put down between chapters. This is a story that will captivate the reader engrossing them in the tale and putting them on the edge of their seat. A. Enciso pulls you along this tale and then absolutely floors you with an ending that has you on pins and needles for the sequel. Your mind will be racing to try to figure out what happens.
Very entertaining and is very detailed, you will be put in the center of the action of this story. The characters will captivate you and have your interest through-out.
If you like murder mysteries, action and the chase, then you will thoroughly enjoy this read. I would highly recommend you picking up this book, or downloading it into your kindle.
Good Vs Evil...True Love Vs Obsession... Romance...Suspence...Las Vegas...Great Characters...this book has it all!
The characters in The Living and the Dead, Volume 1 really came alive for me. I had a difficult time putting down this book. The only thing that helped me to not rush through it too quickly was knowing that I still have to wait for Volume Two, lol. I have been told that book two will be available around July of this year, so if you have not yet picked up The Living and the Dead Volume 1, I highly recommend that you do so!
Although this is a lengthy book, it is a fairly quick read. I stayed up way too late most nights while reading this, as I really wanted to find out what happened next. There is a bit of something for everyone in this book. Mr. Enciso is able to weave the romantic thread seamlessly into the action-filled plot. With each turn of the page, I became more and more caught up in the lives of the characters, and in the outcome of the struggles and challenges that they encountered.
I found myself wondering just how much the main character could take, and whether or not people like the antagonist and his "perros" really exist out there somewhere. The storyline flowed along smoothly, taking me from violent conflict to tender romance, and back again.
The book takes you places you may not have been before, but it is a great journey. I even learned some new phrases during the reading, lol. I look forward to the release of Volume 2,and to any other books by this particular author.
The Living and The Dead Volume 1 is the first half of an epic saga involving two young lovers and their tight knitted family and friends. Every page gets more and more exciting. The nemesis of this young character(Nathaniel Walker)is the meanest nastiest person to seem to walk the planet. For those out there in search of a great book look no more.
I am struggling to put the book (well, my kindle) down long enough to even write this review! I was hooked after only the first few pages. If you plan on reading this book (it's a large one!) be sure to settle in comfortably as it's difficult to tear oneself away from it. The story is well written and holds the reader in its grip. No overly lenghthy descriptions here - I love that! That way I can partipate by mentally supplying my own version of what a "man in a dark suit" might look like. Happily, Volume II has already been released and I am almost anxious to finish Volume I just so I can continue with II... I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading. This one has something for (well, almost) everyone; suspense, violence, sexual content, love/romance... Can't get enough! I already know I'll be a bit sad once I'm done with both books.
Hopefully Mr. Enciso will provide us with more of his masterful story-telling skills in the future.
